outwardly orderly

"Let us recognize that as with individuals, so with social structures:
they can be outwardly orderly
yet inwardly violent.
And if violence means violating human integrity,
then without hesitation we must call violent any social structure
that condemns human beings to hopelessness and helplessness,
to less than human existence
Further, it is clear that people concerned with non-violence must show
not only compassion
for the victims of violence
but also a determination to change
the structures of society that make them objects of compassion."

Wisdom from a priceless little book called Peace Prayers that I bought for 99 cents at Pegasus yesterday.  These words help me understand why I get out of bed in the morning and why I can't fall asleep at night.
May we all foster a determination to change and the hope of peace.

thanks giving

I decided to start a blog to keep track of my thoughts.  I envision it being about anything meaningful to me.  The title comes from one of my favorite songs, written by Bob Dylan (the first man I called my boyfriend at the age of five, before I knew what that meant).  As much as I (still) love Mr. Dylan, there is just nothing like Mary Travers singing this one.  (Mary and I were born on the same day, seventy-five years apart.  I like to think we're connected in some way because of it.)  I grew up listening to Peter, Paul, & Mary and their music has grown with me (or I have grown with it?).
In some ways I feel like I'm sailing.
Waiting to sleep in the sand.
Looking for the Answer.

On this Thanksgiving I am so grateful for each of the many blessings in my life.
If you're reading this, you are one of them.
May we all experience immeasurable gratitude between this Thanksgiving and next.
And always..
